Election?
Despite legislating a fixed election date in October 2009, Harper is planning on calling on before he loses in 3 bi-elections in early September.

Let's rewind to what Harper said when he introduced the legislation originally:

"Fixed election dates prevent governments from calling snap elections for short-term political advantage," Harper said. "They level the playing field for all parties and the rules are clear for everybody."

Hmm..

16? Let's see her driver's license.
Tiny Chinese gymnast faces inquiry over age: Perhaps the most convincing evidence is the file photo dated January 1st 2008 which clearly shows 14 candles on He Kexin's birthday cake.

Better Olympic Sports
I was watching Olympic BMX Racing this morning, and I feel that BMX racing really doesn't fit in the same league as the more traditional Olympic Sports...like swimming, running, etc.

One sport I think they should bring back (online petition anyone?) is Tug-of-War! It hasn't seen the Olympic games since the turn of last century...but I think it's due for a comeback. What better way to determine which country rules them all then by finding out who can pull a rope the hardest? It's basically a perfect test.

What's Sad about McAfee
I recently tried to download a program to my PC at work but it was blocked by our corporate firewall and flagged as containing a virus. No big deal, that's what it's for...right? So I checked out what McAfee's Site Advisor had to say about the site...the rated it all OK with no viruses.

So I sent them an email, and this is what they came back with:
Hello,

Here is an analysis of that file:
http://www.virustotal.com/analisis/1f41e979048b96e9b77d61a3537f6185

Many scanners (including McAfee's) do not flag this file as risky.

Sincerely,

Great. I'm glad to hear that McAfee doesn't find software that loads ads and other unwanted stuff on your PC to be malicious software...and that they are able to justify that by pointing out that only 6 other virus scanners flag it.

I guess I'll avoid their AV software from here on in.

What's sad about North Korea
This one's for Dan.

Did you know North Korea has an airline? Air Koryo is the one and only airline that flies in North Korea. It is widely regarded as the worst airline in the world and is the only airline to have ever received a 1-star rating from Skytrax (to be fair, it did receive 3 stars for "cockpit communications").

Beijing
To answer a question I asked in RL last week: It's pronounced Bay-jing, not Bay-zhing. And now that you know this, you can act smug to anyone you hear mispronouncing it.

P.S. As an added bonus, if you go to that Star page soon enough, you'll get to see pronounced spelled 'pronunced' in the title!

Food for Thought
I'm sure you've all heard by now that Michael Phelps eats a lot...like 6 times more than the average man. It's been in the news a few times already, but you know what no one's mentioned? How much Michael Phelps shits. What goes in, must come out. I wonder if he has a super-sized toilet with extra capacity?

Summer Hydro Blues
I don't know about you, but I just finished paying my second summer hydro bill.

Needless to say A/C is well worth it, but do my bills always need to be this high?

Now there is a website that can help you determine if installing solar panels will provide you with some legitimate ROI. At the very least, it will avoid you hiring a hippie to come to your house to do some calculations.

Check it out: RoofRay.com

Don't worry, it's just Olympic Fever.

SMS Charges Coming Your Way
Well, the federal government continues to be useless. What is Jim Prentice's cell phone number? I think everyone in Canada should wake up each morning and send him a nice text message to say "Hello." (of course, he's probably with Rogers).

GTA IV...Pete won't buy it, but I will.
Good thing I didn't scrap my PC for a Mac: GTA IV for PC this Nov.
