In case you haven't heard, it would appear that Rogers is dropping the ball with the launch of what the NY Times called the "Invention of the Year". Here's a couple of interesting articles regarding the launch, and why even if you wanted an iPhone, you might not be able to get one on launch day:
Apple allegedly sanctioning Rogers for iPhone rates
Spat with Rogers leaves Canadian Apple stores without iPhones
Basically the iPhone is a data device first with a phone attached to it. Since it provides Apple with a mobile storefront to sell iTunes music and video, it makes sense for them to divert units to markets with data plans that favour the consumer (enabling them to buy the iTunes content without a data fee from the wireless carrier).
I was hoping to join the 21st century by getting an iPhone myself (since I currently don't have a cell phone...text messaging? What's that?), but I'll be waiting for either more competitive pricing or an alternate device (I'm looking at you HTC Touch Pro...don't let me down).
