Waterloo: Not just for Waterlosers anymore
Big news for the Perimeter Institute: "Physicist Stephen Hawking accepts post at Waterloo institute"

Sigh, politics
October 7, 2008 (before being elected):
"Our position in this election is we're not going to run deficits," Harper told reporters after the Conservative Party platform was released. "I think it would dangerous to sort of fly off in that direction now."
November 19, 2008 (after being elected):
... it would be misguided to commit to a balanced budget in the short-term at any cost ...
Pretty quick turnaround. Mind you it's not the fact that he changed his mind that's the problem (that's just for cheap laughs), but more the fact that before the election he refused to believe there was any economic crisis and refused to come up with a plan to address it (does he have a plan even now?)

Anyone super psyched for tomorrow's CRTC ruling re: Bell's throttling? I'm looking forward to Bell burning. And writhing and screaming in pain in the fire as they're burning.

Best Escape Ever

We will know by this time tomorrow.
Don't let me down America, please don't let me down.

um, open thread.

The red-hot Ontario economy
Ontario is predicted to become a have-not province (takes more money from Ottawa than it gives) in 2009. It would join the economic powerhouses of Manitoba, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and PEI as the only Canadian have-nots. (Newfoundland's not a have province yet, but is predicted to be in 2010).

(Edit: put in a more modern link. Changed timeline from 2010 to 2009)
