Here's an idea for a search engine: Collect a portion of the AdSense/advertising revenue from the search results and place it in a pot. As more and more users search, the pot grows (directly related to revenue from search results). Periodically, a random user wins the jackpot on their search (like a slot machine). This in turn will cause people to come back and search more often (presumably increasing the AdSense revenue again). You would need to limit the fequency of searches to 1 every 5 seconds to keep people from defrauding you (and probably do some wizardy with JavaScript or something else to keep the botnets at bay).
In order to pay out to the users, everyone would need to have an account (similar to Google's personalized search). The user data that is collected from searches also has value and can be resold.
Sounds good to me.
