Boxing-Day Shootout
As I'm sure many of you have heard, Toronto played host to a volly of gunfire the day after Christmas Holiday. With 6 people hurt and one dead (all innocent bystanders), there's been little talk of what to do about the rise in gun violence in Toronto. Youth programs? Stiffer pealties?

Personally, I think the sentencing is a bit of a joke in this country. House arrest? Conditional sentences? Let's have some serious jail time for serious crimes.

Merry Christmas

Have a great holiday season!

and a Happy New Years.

I'm in the B-town until the night of the 27th, so lets get together and tie one on.

Winter Solstice
Today is the Winter Soltice, AKA the shortest day of the year.

Nutmeg: Silent but Deadly
I was talking to a guy last night who claimed that eating too much nutmeg made him hallucinate. Being half skeptic and half jackass I didn't believe him. I checked out his story in Wikipedia, and low and behold, he's right...(unless he wrote the Wiki article yesterday when he got home...)

From the Wikipedia article: "Large doses of 7.5 g or more are dangerous, potentially producing convulsions, palpitations, nausea, eventual dehydration, and generalized body pain. In amounts of 10 g or more it is a mild to medium hallucinogen, producing visual distortions and a mild euphoria similar to that derived from Marijuana. However, use of nutmeg as a recreational drug is unpopular, due to the potential painful physical side effects, the risk of Nutmeg Psychosis (see below) and the inconventiently long span for which the effects of a single dose can persist."

Paris Hilton has finally met her match!
E-Filler's got a new #1 keyphrase. After 3 or 4 months at the top, "Paris Hilton" is no longer what the world is searching for when they find us:

P.S. #2 on Yahoo! for this.

Food for the Googlebot
This post is simply so that a picture of Saugeen (or Saugeen-Maitland Hall or The Zoo) under construction will be somewhere on Google. I was unable to find one, but happened to locate a copy I had saved from many years ago...

So index this, Googlebot:

Saugeen Striptease
There's an e-mail circulating containing pictures of some girls from the Saugeen residence (aka The Zoo) "performing a striptease" for some fellow residents. Last week I received the e-mail, and it had a loooong list of names at the top (people who had already seen it, including Andy Fantuz). As if having all of Western know that you're a slut isn't bad enough, it's in today's Toronto Star...and the author of the article even has the decency to tell you what to Google for. Too bad the girl didn't hold up a "Hi Mom" poster...

Red Swingline
Andrew D. told me the other day that there was no red Swingline stapler, but after the movie Office Space (in which one character had an obsession with such a beast) they released one (due to customer demand). Lo-and-behold he's right...and it looks like they want to tie themselves to the movie but aren't officially sanctioned (which I find rather amusing).

The description for this stapler, and only this stapler, reads: Discover the stapling star of any office space - the bold head-turning design and legendary performance of Swingline´s Rio Red Stapler...
(Emphasis mine)

Update: The Swingline Wikipedia article corrobrates Andrew's story.

What makes a bigger difference?
Both the liberals and the conservatives are pledging tax cuts in this election, but whose tax cuts will help those most in need of it?

On the one and, lower income tax (as proposed by the liberals) will let us all take home slightly fatter paychecks (except those who are in the 0% income tax bracket, and arguably, they need a tax break the most).

On the other hand, the conservatives are pledging a GST cut (1% now, 1% in a million years). Since the rich probably don't spend an equal portion of their income on goods and services, it's fair to say that they will benifit less from this break than those who spend a larger (or all) of their income on the various necessities of life.

Of the two options which do you think is better and why?

(See, e-filler's not dead, just sleeping)

E-Filler is offically dead
Well, not only has the infrequency of posts signalled an all-time low for fans of e-filler.ca, but the poor-quality posts and overwhelming number of "inside" computer science jokes has served to alienate the traditional e-filler.ca clientele.
