Right to die
Posted By: Krish

Marcel Tremblay, a 78-year old man from Kanata, ON, has done what he had publicized he would do. Suffering from an incurable lung condition, Tremblay took his own life last night.
Non-assisted suicide was decriminalized in Canada over 30 years ago. This past week, Tremblay has pushed the idea of everyone having "the right to die". Any thoughts?

American Invasion of E-Filler.ca

I think that we should offer "J" a user name and password to spice-up the discussions on E-filler. It can also be seen as a sign of peace, showing the forgiving nature of Canadians towards their ignorant and misinformed neighbours to the South.
Whats the consensus?

Poor Taste Reaches New Heights
Posted By: Dan
|
Jan 27, 2005 - 12:39 PM
|
Today poor taste reached a new high (or low) as a New York radio station played the "Tsunami Song" which (in the worst possible way) makes light of the disaster.
Lines include:
"Africans drowning, little Chinamen swept away"
and
"I just saw her float by, a tree right through her head, and now your children will be sold to child slavery."
How about a little common sense next time? |

Equal rights or just plain non-sense?

Apparently a lesbian couple wants to hold their wedding reception at a Catholic hall (why? No one knows)...upon learning that the reception was for a same-sex couple, the hall (owned by the Knights of Columbus) cancelled the booking. Now the couple is up in arms...blah blah blah equal-rights blah sue blah blah...should I be allowed to book a Jewish hall to host a rib-fest?? |

Online Store

Since I keep getting the Cafepress news letters, I thought I'd check if our online store was still around. Sure enough, it was. I added a link to the top of this page.
The logo on the stuff is from the old site...I think it's probably time to update the merchandise. Any ideas? I'd like to try and double sales (that's right, sell 2 things this year ;)
P.S. Everything in that store is "at cost" (ie. I can't make the price any lower). |

No Instant Replay for CFL Next Year

:(
Also, from the article: "...from the league's winter meetings in Palm Beach, Fla." The CFL has winter meetings in Palm Beach? If they're strapped for cash (and they always are), maybe they should look into cutting the trip to Florida budget. |

10th Drunk Driving Charge

This Toronto Star article's title is " Stiff sentence given 10-time drunk driver"...maybe the title should begin with "Fair sentence...". Apparently his family is outraged and doesn't feel this is fair treatment...but com'on people. 10 times?!?! Maybe if it was his first or second conviction he should deserve another chance...but 10?? I think his family is crazy. |

Team America Strikes "Evil Doers" in Iraq

Well, once again, superior intelligence and technology aided Team America in taking out this threat to American national secturity. Here is a link to the images, albeit graphic, to the incident in question.
here.
I wonder how many incidents similar to this occur when there happens to be no reporter or press around. Either way, the US has millions of miles to cross before they even begin to win the hearts and minds of the Iraqi people. They are no liberators. What a joke. |

Anyone happen to record/watch The Simpsons on Sunday night? "Midnight Rx" witnessed Homer and other Springfield power plant employees move to Canada after Mr. Burns cuts-off the company drug plan, in search of affordable pharmacudicals. I'm looking to get my hands on a copy since i didn't see it, season 16 episode 6. Anyone have it? I've searched high and low, nothing.
Please! |

Could the weather network be more wrong? The forcast right now is "Close to 1 cm of snow" before the end of the evening...guess what. It snowed like 10cm in the last hour (and there's no sign of it letting up)... |

Patriots Embarass the Colts
Posted By: Pete

New England Patriots fans everywhere released a collective sigh of relief, as Colt's poster-boy, Peyton Manning shit the bed in Foxboro, Mass. yesterday. Despite his record season, throwing 49 touchdown passes in 16 games, Manning failed to even score a single touchdown yesterday at Gillette Stadium. In what was heralded as the biggest game of the week, the Patriots defense showed once again why Manning is 0-7 in New England.
The first six points of the game were scored by kicker, Adam Viniateri of the Pats. Oakville native, Vanderjagt had only had one opportunity to kick, netting the Colt's their only three points of the day, and their final points of the season. Wide reciever Givens scored a TD on a pass from Brady, and Brady also completed a sneak for another TD for the Pats. Final score for the game, Patriots 20, Colts 3.
The Patriots also ended the Colts season last year in New England.
Next week the Patriot's square-off against the Pittsburg Steelers, whom ended their winning streak in a Dillon-less game in Pittsburgh in week eight. This time around, star running back Corey Dillon will be playing. The Steelers had trouble last week defeating the New York Jets, whom the Patriots demolished in week 16 of the season, 23-7.
I wish the best of luck to the Defending Champions, New England Patriots in their tough match next week against the Steelers.

I got my brother a dial for Christmas, and since then he's taken it upon himself to write a lot of software for it. And a couple days ago he shot a video of it in action (XMMS plug-in is shown, I think). Maybe not of the most broad appeal, but I thought it was entertaining. Kind of makes me wish I had a dial.... |

What the heck is RSS?
Also, E-Filler's headlines are available for syndication on other sites.... |

The ongoing conflict between evolution and creationism continues in the southern United States. The latest development sees a federal judge ordering a Georgian school board to remove stickers from science textbooks that caution the student about evolution.

Oh Ashlee, oh Ashlee...
Don't you worry about a thing, I'm sure daddy recorded every second of this memorable incident to play on your very own reality television series.
What show?
You know, the one just like your big sister has?
Huh?
Oh, I'm sorry. You're too dumb to understand? O. K. It's the show where your very own dad whores you out like some cheap trash marionette puppet. Do you remember that one now?
Would you like fries with my milkshake?
You make my ears bleed. Please stop!

So speaking of Tucker Carlson (the idiot bowtie guy), here is a great clip of his show. It is from an episode in which Jon Stewart from The Daily Show appears as a guest. I gotta give props to Stewart on this one.

Changes coming to CNN?
Posted By: Krish
|
Jan 06, 2005 - 2:15 PM
|
The most annoying news network in the world may be undergoing a facelift. New chief executive John Klein has decided against renewing the contract of 'bowtie guy'/idiot Tucker Carlson.
Furthermore, Klein has hinted that he intends to axe Crossfire altogether, and hopes to replenish CNN with "more substantive programming", instead of the verbal mud-slinging the network is known for. Is it possible that one day, CNN may become somewhat respectable? I doubt it, but at least Carlson has been booted.

By this time, everyone (and I mean ABSOLUTELY EVERYONE) should have seen this music video. It was the best of 2004, no questions asked.
But for those of you who:
A) Don't have cable.
B) Prefer the company of men, and
C) Live under a rock.
The time is now to open your little download program (Weapon of Piracy) and score your self a copy of this kick-ass, risque-but-not-xxx, music video.
Artist : Eric Prydz
Title : "Call On Me"
You can thank me, or just comment on it, as always, on the message board. |

Flag Flop
Posted By: Krish

As I'm sure many have heard, Newfoundland premier Danny Williams has pledged not to fly the Canadian Flag in Newfoundland and Labrador until Prime Minister Martin agrees to meet with him to negotiate the province's oil revenues. As of today, Williams continues to stand by his vow.
Is this not a little ridiculous? In doing this, the premier was hoping to "send a message" to Canadians about the seriousness of the oil issue. Frankly, I cannot see any positives coming from this action ... this may only incite people. |

Operating Systems
Posted By: Dan
|
Jan 04, 2005 - 7:14 PM
|
If you listen carefully you can hear a large rift opening up in the operating system market. Let me summarize the state of affairs:
Microsoft Windows: Easy to use, but technically weak...okay, so maybe that doesn't matter to most people, but worms, spyware and viruses are becoming serious problems. Microsoft seems to be putting forth stop-gap measures to curb the problems rather than fixing the weaknesses from the ground up. I think they are going to have a problem in the long run.
Linux: Oh wow, where to start...it CAN run smoothly, but it can also run like a pile of crap. And while it has made significant gains in the 'user friendly' department, it still leaves ALOT do be desired, especially when installing new hardware. (My mom is not prepared to sit down and 'RTFM' everytime something goes wrong.)
BeOS: A cool alternative, but now out-of-business. :(
Mac OS X: We might be on to something here. It's not Windows, it's built on Unix (which has stood the test of time), it has commericial support, and it's easy to use! Oh wait, there's a catch...it only runs on Apple hardware...doh! Way to miss the boat...there's tons of PC hardware out there.
So what is the average PC user left with? Nothing. I think there's a serious opportunity opening up here... |
