Commenting System
I've added a commenting system to replace our dangerously overused messageboard. It's pretty simple to use...just click Add/View Comments and it will display what other people said about an article...to add a comment just scroll down, fill in the necessary fields and click submit.

Happy Bitching!

Moving Home
Well, goodbye London, hello Burlington. What can I say? Everytime I come home I feel more and more like a guest at a hotel rather than a member of my (former?) family. I wish I was back in London.

It's going to be a looooooooong summer...but at least I'm not living in the library like this guy.

Young Love
Hey!
How long until the Olsen Twins are 18?

Grandmas will be Grandmas!
I got this picture of my Grandma (who passed earlier this year) sent to me from my cousin. Here she is on Parliament Hill, in the big glasses and in her larger days, in 1982 with Pierre Trudeau. She was a staunch Liberal Party supporter in Quebec, and supported and worked for the Liberal Party in her riding for decades.

Bugatti
While we're still on the topic of cars:
Here's one car I forgot to consider while shopping, the Bugatti Veyron. It only costs around $1,000,000 USD...I don't know how I over looked this bargin?

This article at "How Stuff Works" talks about how they built the 1000hp car...cool stuff.

Mitsubishi
Perhaps instead of building cars, Mitsubishi should stick to building what they know best. All they need is another imperial government to give them some business.

Mitsubishi
When I was looking at cars, one I was considering was the Mistubishi Lancer. It turns out NOT going with that car was probably a good idea. It looks like Mitusbishi might be in some financial trouble. What good is a warrenty if there's no company left to honour it?

P.S. Dave, I will be back in Burlington on Thursday...

Nice!
Nice wheels Dan, kudos on picking the hatch version of the 3. I was afraid you were going to get the sedan version, but that is one sweet ride! I see from the background you're in Burlington, when can I see her?

Zoom Zoom!
Well, I finally bought a car, and here it is!

Did Henley
Everyone who lived on my floor in Saugeen in 2001-2002, go to yahoo.ca and search for "posterbitch". The number 2 result is the posterbitch himself, Did Henley! Way to go Did, you've left your mark in history.

Explosive Temper
Read this article.

Truckasaurus
You know that episode of the Simpsons's where they go to see "Truckasaurus?" (Yeah I know, it's an old episode where they look and sound funny.) Well, I thought it was based on something real, so I did a little digging and it turns out I was right. Check out Robosaurus here! I can't believe someone built this thing...

We're not blockish, not at all
After decades of being called "Boxey" and "Cubish", Volvo has decided to break away from that stereotype. Their first step was to build an entire car out of Lego Blocks. This car looks awesome, and Volvos aren't the cubes they were back in the 80's and early 90's, but honestly who's bright PR idea was this?

We will get over it
Hey
I just wanted to say congrats to the Leafs, more specifically Ed Belfour for defeating (not destroying) the Sens in the last game of a seven game series. My boys simply did not show up to play in game 7 and I can say nothign more than that.

On a positive note, I have utmost faith in John Muckler, a fantastic general manager, to make the proper moves to improve the situation of my favorite hockey team. Parting ways with Jacques Martin was a good move, a change was needed after the 8 years or so he was in town. I would also like to add my kudos for Jacques for handling his departure in such a sophisticated and classy manor, something common with the Ottawa Senators hockey club.

I now have 2 messages to the Leafs and Leaf fans...

1) No matter what, I will never support your club as a fan, nor will I join your nation or obnoxious and ignorant hockey fans

and

2)Good luck against the Flyers

News Updates
Here are some various bits of news for the day:

Michael Jackson is going to trial.
• There was a horrible train wreck in North Korea.
• There is going to be a new Star Trek movie.
• McDonald's is going to start rolling out WiFi (Wireless Network/Internet) access in it's outlets in the United States.

That is all.

Sorry this is better.....

Fourth Time in Five Years
Last night the Toronto Maple Leafs destroyed the Ottawa Senators in Game 7 of the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. This win ended Ottawa's 2003/2004 season and their hopes to legitimize their modern organization with a Stanley Cup victory, a feat they have failed to accomplish since 1926. I guess there's always next year, probably not though.

Montreal Parking Meters
Montreal has some shiney new parking meters to show off. They feature a 206Mhz processor with 64MB of RAM to run embedded Linux. Is it just me or does 206Mhz sound like a bit too much computing power for a parking meter? Not to mention, what is the pay-back like on these units?

LPhoto vs iPhoto
So Lindows (a flavor of Linux taylored to look and feel like Windows) has been forced to change it's name to Linspire or face endless lawsuits from Microsoft. The company won it's case in the US, but is being sued left and right in Europe. Rather than battle it out (until bankrupcy no doubt) they've decided to simply change the name of their product.

Now, they've come out with 2 applications: LSongs and LPhoto....uh oh. Will they ever learn? Are these two products too close in name and appearance to their Apply counterparts? You be the judge:

Trying to study for those final exams eh? Well, this will help you put things off: Popcap Games. Lots of free Java and Flash games to waste your study time on.

Enjoy.

Printer Ink
I ripped this link off the Void. The article says that some printer ink costs more than vintage champagne. ha ha ha

Spyware
According to this article, your computer has spyware. You'd better do something about it. I suggest Adaware, Spybot or Linux.

She went too far
Hey
After seeing the following pic I became very confused. I could not figure out what was more funny about it...

A)That someone did this?
or
B)That most of anyone who reads this site knows a Scott Kelly?

Matt Groening appearance
It looks like Matt Groening is going to make his first speaking appearance on the Simpson's this Sunday. Read more about it here.

Robot Saves Lives?
The company 'iRobot' is cheering the loss of one of their robots, saying that it may very well have saved the life of a soldier. Or are they really cheering becuase they know the US DOD will have to order another one? ($50,000 USD)

Also, Mandrake 10 was offically released today. There's no time like the present to try Linux.

Google
Its unfortunate that they will scan the content of your e-mails to advertise related products/services to the topics included in the body of your e-mail. What's more, they promise to save every email you send and recieve, after you close you account. Say hi to big brother!

GMail
In the near future Google is going to try and butt heads with the likes of Hotmail and Yahoo. Google plans to introduce it's own e-mail service that (for free) provides 1GB (that's one gigabyte) of e-mail storage. Why? Why not? Considering that most people don't store even close to that amount of junk in their inboxes, and the cost per GB is ~$1 (CDN), it doesn't seem like that far fetched an idea. Backing it up could be troublesome, but that's their problem, not ours. They claim that there will be no pop-up ads, and the ads you do see will only be text based. This could be a promising service. I'm looking forward to signing up...I only hope they can do something about the SPAM problem.

Linux on the Desktop
It's been a while since anyone posted, so....here goes:

The Toronto Star is running an article on the emergence of Linux as a desktop operating system. They even mention Corel (to those of us who go to schools owned by Corel...*cough*Carleton*cough*). For those of you who don't know, I've slowly made the switch to Linux over the last few months. I can't say that Linux is ready for prime time desktop usage, but it's getting close. Linux is great when everything is working...but when something breaks, a novice user won't be able to 'point-and-click' themselves to saftey. It still takes a lot of technical knowledge to fix things with Linux. Bugs? Yeah, Linux has bugs, but so does Windows...I figure, why pay for them when I can get them for free?

Archives
The archives now have a basic search function. It's pretty basic (I will improve it with time), but it should speed up the process of finding stuff in there if you know what you're looking for. Enjoy.

The War President
This mosaic was made by Joe at American Leftist. It features the faces of the 600 service men and women who have died in Iraq. The mosaic is also featured at Michael Moore's website.

X-Files
This is the creepiest thing I've read in while (if it's true). It's a story about a small village in Sicily where electrical devices catch fire for no reason. The government evacuated the town and the power company disconnected the village from the grid, but the fires keep happening. Scientists, engineers and "ghostbusters" moved it, but they've yet to discover the cause.

Wacking Day
This is about as close as you can get to a real life "Wacking Day" (which I'm sure you all recall from The Simpsons where everyone in Springfield tries to pummel the snakes...) I didn't know stuff like this really happened.

For Sale: TBM
Exams are approaching and I know what you're thinking: "Damn, I need another tunnel boring machine, but where am I going to get one this time of year?" Well, you're in luck. Someone happens to be selling one on E-Bay. When I checked the bidding was around a million pounds. This is one of the TBMs used to dig the Euro Tunnel. Sounds like a bargin to me...

Go Leafs
Here's a picture of Sundin tucking in one the 6 goals that the Leafs scored last night, in their 6-0 thrashing of the Ottawa Senators.

That's gotta be embarrassing. Eh Brian?

Canada's National Airline
If Air Canada goes bankrupt, then our national airline will be Westjet (a discount carrier). Lovely.

6-0
3rd period, 7 minutes left - Leafs lead 6 to 0.

Brian.

Peter,
You missed the sarcasm in my post. Nevertheless, I remain impressed with your use of bold text in your message.

Matsos & A Midget?
I think the real question is: How tall is that girl on the right? Mark can't be over 5'7", so by looking at the picture you can guess that she's about 4'1"?
Go Schulich!

PS: Dave I think Matsos might be in school still because he's becoming a DOCTOR, hence the labcoat.

Marky Mark
I thought he'd be done school by now, I guess he's just slow.

I wonder how he got on the front page... top grades?

Ova
hey,
so, i believe that Mark Matsos equals about 6 chicken embrios (sp?)

Guess who's on UWO's main webpage? That's right, Mark Matsos:

Slow Day
Well, it's been a slow day. School is winding down for the year, and it begs the question, what is everyone doing for the summer and the next year?

I myself will be graduating in a few weeks and will need to decide whether to head to grad school or out into the scarry real world.

Legal-Ease
hey,
so here it is in response to dans request on downloading music and the law

i will start by explaining how computer software is protected uunder copyright. when a person purchases an program or game or whatever, such as a copy of windows xp, because i feel it directly relates and could then proide precedent on the matter. what is really happenning is that they are not actually purchasing the program. what they are doing is leasing the product. usually the terms of the lease come in 2 forms, first form has the rules of lease visible through the packaging and readily available to be read and understood before purchasing. The second type is what i believe to be called the "shrink wrap contract". with this one, the contract is included in the packaging, but is not visible to the customer before they purchase it. these types are a little harder to enforce compared to the first type because a buyer cannot agree to terms he has not seen.

i personally view cds in the same way. when i bye a cd (as if i do nowadays), i believe i am leasing the music on it. that is, i dont have title to the intellectual property of the music im listening to. therefore, i cant get royalties to it when its used in a movie or covered by another artest. but, what i feel i can do, is share that program with other people for no charge.

what it all boils down to, in my view, is that unless music companies include a VISIBLE contract in the packaging of the cd that prohibits sharing it, filesharing on the internet is perfectly legal. however, if they were to do this, the cost of blank cds and dvds would drop significantly because we currently pay a surchage/tax on all recording devices like that, a tax which goes directly to subsidise the music industry, its because they really need the money.

that being said, one way that i feel filesharing could be an infringement of copyright is if the program that you use to download the use of the music (the right to listen to it, copy it and so forth) and profits from the sharing of the files (has pop up ads etc) would be breaking the law.

and im spent
