Welcome to the E-Filler Archive. This is where posts go when they're no longer welcome on the main page. Previous posts are organized by month.

Love is in the Air!
Hey,
I just want to take this time to announce my ever lasting love for Elisha Cuthbert.

You may remeber her from her days on Popular Mechanics for Kids, where I have been scouting this fine piece of talent throughout the majority of her adolescent life. You might also know her from her role as Kimberly Bauer on 24.

Now you can see her in her latest, and I may say, most glorious role as an ex pornstar in the upcoming Blockbuster The Girl Next Door

Brian

Happy Leap Year
If I had the money and intelligence I'd like to try and build one of these too! The guy took a tablet PC and hooked it up to a "Roomba" (robotic vaccuume)...looks cool, but I wonder how useful it is?

Software Bugs
While we're on the topic of faulty software, here's a few noteworthy disasters caused by software:
Airbus A320 - The world's first computer controlled aircraft
Therac-25 Cancer treatment machine (made in Canada...doh!)
• The ESA's Ariane 5 rocket which self destructed a few seconds after launch due to a software bug (it cost billions)
• The sinking of the Sleipner A offshore platform in Norway

It kinda makes you think twice before you'd go out and buy a car powered by a Microsoft operating system.

Kman and Captian Orgasm Greeted with Great Fanfare in Hamilton!
Big E-Filler reunion in Hamilton tonight, as Peter Clarke and Kyle George Jennings arrive in Hamilton for a night of festivities. Personally, I'm predicting a night of consequences. I have to go eat.

Brian is the only gay eskimo I know. He must be the only one in his tribe.

It's worth adding I remain entirely unconvinced, even remotely, that a software glitch aided the collapse of the Soviet economy which in turn gave way to the collapse of the Soviet federation. Anyways, its interesting how he made is article appealing by, ironically, 'blowing up' his story.

The Impact of Software?
This little article suggests that software was partially, if not entirely responsible for the collapse of the USSR. I'm not so sure about that, but I am sure that the Ruskies got a cyber bitch slap when they stole technology that the Americans purposely sabotaged.

The Cold War was definitely the most entertaining of all international conflicts.

Fire Alarms
The fire alarm goes off so frequently in my building, that the fire department should give them a bulk discount on their fines. You know, have 10 false alarms and the 11th is free this month. Unbelievable.

My understanding is that it costs $2,000 per false alarm...multiply that by the number of alarms in the last two years and we're talking about some serious money. You think they'd install some type of deterrent, like this.

Microsoft Products
Well, it looks like Microsoft has decided that not releasing a product for several years might not be such a good idea after all. They're considering releasing a product in between WindowsXP and their next major release (Longhorn). This all sounds so familiar...*cough*WindowsME*cough*

What Badgers Eat
I'm sure everyone remembers the episode of The Simpson's where a badger is living in Santa's Little Helper's dog house. Well, if you recall, Lisa goes on her computer and surfs to the webpage: www.whatbadgerseat.com. It turns out that's a real website (owned by our friends at Fox). Why not take a look and educate yourself on badgers, there will be a test at the end of this post.

Ash Wednesday
Today is Ash Wednesday (for a few more hours anyway). It marks the beginning of Lent for Catholics (and maybe other Christians too...I don't know for sure) around the world.

Also today is the premiere of Mel Gibson's 'The Passion of the Christ'. I've heard mixed reviews about it...has anyone out there seen it? Leave your comments in the messageboard (and also feel free to comment on Dave's laptop dilemma).

I-books
Does anyone know about any problems associated with Mac notebook computers? I was considering buying one for school, but I'm not sure if I should just stick with an regular PC version notebook or not. I'm not sure if there will be compatability issues, with transferring files between the two or not. Is anyone else out there of any opinion on this matter?

I know you are!

Sick of School
It offical. I'm sick of school, I am sick of this year, and I am sick of my life moving into uncharted waters. I prefered the security of elementary school...where with (almost) each year, there was another year coming right behind it! There was nothing quite like going down to Mr. Scarfone's office twice a week...that was as hard as it got. No decisions to make, no jobs to find, no assignments to worry about.

Oh, how I miss the olden days...

Buy yourname.ca!
If you're looking to register a domain name, I highly recommend domainsatcost.ca. I previously used internic.ca, but domainsatcost is considerable cheaper, and offers the exact same (if not slightly faster) service. In fact, I suspect these two companies are really one in the same...their webpages are a bit too similar for pure coincidence.

Toronto's Super Thieves?
Looks to me like this jewelry store was just embarassed, I wonder if staff was fired. How can you let a guy walk out with HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS WORTH OF JEWELRY without paying?

In this situation the thief walks in and out, and makes his money on volume, not a single steal. Good method I guess. What kind of security do you think they have at these buildings?

Although I have moral objections to theft and thievery, I still have to respect someone who uses their intelligence rather than violence. U.S.A., I'm looking in your direction.

As an aside, both of these cases are still unsolved. Score one for the superthieves.

Message Board
I put up an E-Filler public message board. It ain't pretty, but it does the job. (The link is located at the lower right under "Internal Links")

I'm too tired to test it, someone else check it out for me.

Conspiracy?
Everyone, the cat is out of the bag!

I was surfing around TDK's website today, when I noticed that their "TDK Global" logo is suspiciously similar to that of "The Weather Network."

Is it possible that I just uncovered a plot to make winter last forever in an effort to sell more CD burners??? So far the evidence seems convincing, but only time will tell...

I'll go take my medicine now.

Server Upgrades
E-Filler was offline earlier today and will possibly be offline again before the end of the week. Sorry for the inconvience.

Dan

Texas Souffle
This is absolutely priceless.

"Archibald, now a trial attorney in North Carolina, remembers that a group of older Alabama socialites, who were volunteering their time, gave Bush a nickname because they thought he "looked good on the outside but was full of hot air." They called him the Texas Soufflé."

If the election is rigged again this time I'm gonna be pissed.

You can see it yourself here

Floor Hockey Violence
A teacher out in Nova Scotia is apparently suspended 2 days without pay becuase of this. They were playing floor hockey and he got a little too rough. Some students videotaped the event, and posted it on the Internet for the world to watch...and judge! Let me know what it looks like...I'm at school so I can't watch it.

Pepsi flavored Apple
Have you heard of the Pepsi-Apple iTunes give away? Well, if we lived in the USA you would have. I'll give you the low-down: Pepsi is giving away 100 million songs from Apple iTunes. To win, you get a code from your Pepsi bottle cap.

Someone has kindly posted a technique on how to check if your bottle is a winner before you buy. Check it out here.

MS Security Bulletins in Japan
Why do the Japanese get security bulletins from Microsoft that are so much more entertaining? Click here to check one out.

Assassin Jail Break
I didn't even know super asassins existed. This is so cool

Don't forget your O2 when kissing!
Well,

If anyone is planning on an extended make-out session, consider bringing some backup oxygen incase you forget to breathe. Or, as in the case of this guy.

A birthday present for Mike
I say, we all pitch in our money and buy this F-18 Hornet from eBay and give it to Mike Cumberland as a birthday present. After all, he has a pilot's license now! AND, the seller also has a MiG 29 fighter for sale...if we bought that we could pit them agaist eachother. Who needs computer games? I wonder if we'd get a bulk discount...

Mozilla
Well Dave, I'm glad you asked.

The answer is more like "Netscape is basically Mozilla." Mozilla has always been an open source project (at least as long as I've known about it), and Netscape has taken this, modified it and then released it under the name 'Netscape Navigator.' Just recently, AOL bought Netscape and then pulled the plug on the whole thing. What's left is just Mozilla.

So, what about this other stuff that Mozilla.org has to offer? Let me break it down for everyone:
• Firebird/Firefox - High speed web brower. Few frills.
• Thunderbird - Fancy mail client. Similar to what's built into Mozilla.
• Mozilla - This is a web browser and mail client rolled into one. It's similar to both Firefox and Thunderbird, but is more feature rich and aimed less at performance.
• Camino - It's for Macintosh computers so who cares about it?
• Bugzilla - Unless your a programmer, don't worry about this.

It just so happens that I tired Firefox on Mandrake Linux 9.2, maybe this has something to do with the bugs I reported.
Hope this helps.
Dan

firefox
I use it, and none of those below mentioned bugs exist on my system. Is Mozilla basically netscape?

Firefox = Crap
I posted a few days ago that Mozilla.org had released their newest high-speed browser. (Firefox) Well, I finally got around to trying it out today. What a piece of junk! Among the bugs are:
• Forward and Back buttons don't work
• The stop button doesn't work
• The little icon beside your current site doesn't change. It gets stuck at the first site.
• When you click a link it doesn't show that the page is loading.
• In the options screen the "OK" button doesn't work. You have to cancel to get out of it.

I'm sure there's a lot more wonderful problems hiding in there for me to find...for now, I'll stick to Firebird. (version 0.7)

- Dan

How does that go again?
Remember that song in the South Park movie? "Blame Canada"

Fear the Scarf!
Beware all!
It is now time for us all to FEAR THE SCARF
I'm serious. I mean, when adolescent girls wear symbolic scarves on their heads we should all pay attention. I mean, they are obviously terrorists. How did I ever think differently?

Take warning, hide your children, and duct tape your windows!
The candy coded terror alert is giving me a bad taste.

Do the world a favor and hug a brown guy

How much would you pay for a phone number?
So, how much would you pay for a phone number? Apparently some people think the number 867-5309 is worth a few bucks.

Becuase of an FCC ruling last year, telephone subscribers in the United States can take their phone numbers with them when they change providers. For example, if you're a Rogers cellular customer, and you decide to switch to Telus, you could keep the same number and avoid the hassle of telling all your friends your new number.

Anyway, the point here is that this particular number is going for over $8,000 USD! (It was in a song...looooong before our time.) If you think your phone number might be worth something, try Phonespell.org and see if it spells anything cool. (Mine is '5-FLOWER')

Poop
Hi,
I believe i just pooped my pants
Brian

Site Maintence
I've modified the archives page. It's now organized by month.

I also modified the internals of the feedback form. We should be less susceptible to spam now.

Dan

Diamonds for everybody!
If you've never heard of man-made diamonds, check out this article. They're indistiguishable from natural diamonds, but made in a lab and cost considerably less. Your wife/girlfriend/mistress will never know the difference!

Guns FOR roses
This church in the US is giving away roses in exchange for people turning in their guns. Too bad I don't have a gun or live in Texas...I'll just have to buy them the old fashioned way.

Fun Little rant
Wanna know what i like about valentines day, it brings together all the unattractive and hopelessly lonely souls together to celebrate thier mutual hatred for those who are unlike them..
people who can get dates.

Sorry, My Bad
Hi,
I would just like to take this time to say sorry for my personal contribution to the on-going and inevitable genocide of the kitten race.

At first it was not my intention to do this. I was unaware of the demands of the omnipitant one. However, that being said, I plan to, and will continue my distructive actions without hesitation.

Thankyou
Brian

Is that god in the background?

Canadian File Swappers Beware
Looks like the Canadian version of the RIAA is going to start going after Canadian file traders. More information is available here. It says they're pursuing 29 people whose ISPs include Bell Sympatico, Videotron, Shaw, Rogers and Telus.

Pleasure Overload
Simpsons' fans rejoice! It would appear that a Simpsons movie is in the pipeline for 2006. You can read more about it here.

On another hilarious note, the comedy troop who brought you "Super Troopers" is coming out with a new film called "Club Dread." You can download the trailer here.

Dan

Don Cherry
Well folks, it turns out Don Cherry was right. It is mostly Europeans and French guys who wear visors in hockey...and now it's offical! (Thanks CBC)

Is he owed an apology?

Good Call Dave
Great idea Dave.
By the way, the guy with the UWO website is a huge idiot. Blantantly seeking attention from anyone, since the girls aren't offering.

UWO Guy
"Some might call him cynical, others objective." I'd call him a dumbass. The guy repeatedly refers to his website as being a satire, let's look up that word, shall we?

Satire, noun - A literary work in which human vice or folly is attacked through irony, derision, or wit.

So...irony, derision, or wit? All three seem to be absent from his website (especially the last one). The only thing that sucks about UWO, is the fact that he goes there.

In summary; his website? Lame.

UWO
So not all those who frequent this board are Western students, and not all Western students WANT to be Western students. Case in point: this guy.

Some might call him cynical, others objective. You be the judge.

Microsoft Update
Why not save yourself a headache and install this patch from Microsoft? Click here.

Oh Those Americans
In case you thought the Mars rovers looked innovative, you'd better think again. Here is some information on the Russian moon rovers from the 1970's...they look awfully familiar. Russian Moon Rover

Here is a quote from that site: "The futuristic looking eight wheeler rode on top of a descent module which extended ramps from both sides offering alternative routes to the surface in case one side was blocked by boulders."

- Dan

Fast and Easy
The fast is the car. You can guess what the easy is...

Brian

Site Updates
Hello All,

Now even if you're not an E-Filler administrator it's possible to make yourself heard! I've added a 'Feedback' link to the right hand side of this page. You can use it to fire off your thoughts and comments to us.

I also updated the admin section.

Lastly, I don't have an image of Paris Hilton to post, but I will have you note that the domain "www.parishiltonisaskank.com" is not yet taken! (Yes, that's for all the extensions, .CA, .COM, .ORG, .NET, .US and .EU!)

Dan

Update: I think I fixed a few small bugs that Brian and I found earlier today...

Pimp-tight Tercel
Anyone interested is seeing this Toyota Tercel loaded with a 3SGTE engine, and turbo take off, this is a good clip. Eveyone loves Tercels.

And really, who dosen't love watching Paris Hilton?? We should have a post-off, who can find the hottest pic of her, then we vote on it. I'll submit tomorrow.

Good News Boys
Don't worry guys it looks like the scantily clad ladies from The Simple Life will be making a triumphant return with a second season. Thank goodness for the television producers out there who still believe in old fashioned eye candy.

Mozilla Firebird
For those of you using Mozilla Firebird, a new version has been release today! There has been a slight change in name...again...first it was Pheonix, then Firebird, now this:

You can download it for Windows here.

Yes, I did steal all this info from The Void.

My American Idol!
Hi,
I want you all to check out this clip of who I think should be the next American Idol

Big Fish
I saw the movie Big Fish last night (not to be confused with Phish). I must admit, it was pretty good. I thought it was going to be terrible since I'm not a big fan of Tim Burton's other work.

I'd also like to thank The Boredroom for linking to us. (although, I suspect they'll add any link you send them...) E-Filler is listed 6th from the top on this page.

Dan

Warning, the Big Fish website takes forever to load and doesn't run too smooth if your PC is only 500Mhz

Name Choices
I found these names hilarious.

[Obviously Satire]

Post-Rap
So they lost, but it was a pretty close game.

And the beers, who would have thought you'd be willing to pay $12 a beer. We had 2 each. Craziness. So I applied to this French language bursary program to go to either Trois-Pistoles, Chicoutimi, or Rivière-du-Loup. Its for 6 weeks, and you get credits towards your degree, and its all paid for! We'll see if I get one.

(The picture, by the way, is of Mt. Edna (I think) in Sicily taken from the ISS using a plain digi camera.)

Spirit Rover
Looks like the Spirit rover is back on track. This article isn't too technical, so it doesn't really say what went wrong, except that the "memory was overloaded". I'd like to hear a more technical description of the problem.

My friend called, I'm off to see the Raptors tonight. But, they suck, so I'm gonna have to get pretty drunk to make it tolerable! At least it will be fun.

LSAT
Hey Bri,

I've been contemplating writing the LSAT next year actually, so believe it or not, your post was of some use! Keep up the good work, and kick some white anglo-saxon protestant ass!

Weather
Wow, could the weather report on the right be more wrong? It's +2 degrees outside, and that thing says -9.

Here is a good resource for POSIX threads programming. (Okay okay, so this last little bit is so I don't loose the link...)

Dan

LSAT
Hey
So for the 2nd time in about 2 months I will be writing my LSAT's this Saturday. Yehaw!
Anyway, I figured if anyone wanted to see what the test is like, u can click here and download an actual test administered in the past.
Remember to read the instructions. 35 mins/section, 3 sections in a row, followed by a 10 min break, then 2 more sections.

I know the downloadable test only has 4 sections(plus one writing sample), but during a real LSAT test you write 5 but only 4 are counted (one is a "test" test that tests questions for future lsat exams). so in that case, do 3, 10 min break, then do 1 plus the writing sample

wanna know the best part about this post, no one really cares about the lsat, let alone this post
brian

More Cookies
Dave, the cookies work okay I think. They error you saw was just a debugging message I was using.

Dan

Japanese Madness
I recieved this e-mail this morning and thought it was postable material. It is from Japanese Public transportation.

I tried using cookies, but it said it 'failed'.

Cookies
So, the Labatt Brewery was good...we weren't allowed to take cameras inside the plant, but I do have 1 photo to prove that I was there. I'll post it later. That plant bottles more beer than a micro-brewry will make/bottle in a year. There was ALOT of beer there. They were packing it at a rate of 1200 bottles per minute.

Also, the cookie goodness works. However, clicking the logout button will remove your cookies, so if you want to stay logged in, don't click 'logout'!

Dan

FIFA on the N-Gage
Here are 2 shots of FIFA 2004 running on the N-Gage. Pretty impressive for a game written in Java.

Also, I think I am going on a tour of the Labatt Brewery tonight...sounds like fun doesn't it?
Dan

Good Work
All you gotta do is get rid of the pesky log-in part now. I'd post more if I didn't have to log in every time. Is there way to do it so cookies let it know who's knockin' at the door?

Site Maintence
Tonight I fixed up the admin section...no longer do you need to look at ALL your previous posts. It's limited to 5 at a time...much cleaner and it loads faster too!

Dan

Procrastinate
In true Brian fashion, I downloaded Bowling for Columbine last night instead of studying for a test I had today. It was well worth it, the test was easy and the movie was great.

Hell Mobility
Hi
I just wanted to post my personal opinion that the worst cell phone company rhymes with Hell Mobility
I do not suggest to anyone who wishes to purchase cell phone service to go see the said company. Their customer service is horrible and their overall organization is even worse.

Thank you Hell Mobility

Thank you
Brian

N-Gage
Here are 2 photos of the N-Gage and me in the morning. Enjoy

Dan

Archives are live!
It's late, and I'm too lazy to post pictures of the N-Gage, just take my word for it, it's cool.

I also whipped up a quick archive section so that we could view previous posts. It displays them 10 at a time.

Dan

Wasting more time
yo!
Pimp this! It's like a 3 min drive from my house.

Brian

Nokia N-Gage
Ladies and Gentlemen (okay, okay, no females actually read this site),

I'm pleased to announce that I have a Nokia N-Gage in my possession. Pictures to follow when I get home tonight.

Dan

Break
Yo
We might be gettin a condo at Tremblant from the 16th of Feb to the 20th.

Mail me if you are interested
Brian

This is what I do instead of hitting the books
Hi,
I thought I would share some entertainment with you. This is a great way for me to kill time rather than studying. Here are some clips from the documentary Bowling For Columbine. I suggest checking them all out, tehy are pretty funny and not to mention it did win an Oscar.
Here are the clips
Brian

Roo-ben
Jay and I made that website last year when american idol started up. when ruben studdard won, the site was flooded and the message board was filled right up. We havent worked on it for months, but at least we still get a few hits from it.

Job Fair
To any UWO'ers out there (ie. Pete) the campus job fair is today from 11AM - 4PM in the UCC. The Student Development Center has more information.

Cheers,
Dan

P.S. I love the "Axis of Evil" image Dave.

What about slack week?
When is slack week at Mac and Other? I'll be heading home to Bdot on the 18th of this month. Perhaps we could meet up then.

Dan

E-Filler Reunion
How does a London E-Filler Reunion sound to everyone out there? Maybe we could set up a weekend of festivities, centered around London. What weekends work for whom? Any other ideas?

Link to us
I have no idea who owns or runs this site, but thanks for linking to us. E-Filler is down near the bottom under "Another cool website."

Dan

Fun!
Hey Everybody!
Remember this: You can't spell funnel without FUN!

Movie
Hey,
This comes out in like July, but check out the trailer adn the Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy

Monday's...
What a long day! With the release of a new Intel processor, there is no telling when we will get to the moon. Wait, weren't we there in 1969? Don't tell our friend George, he'll be disappointed.

Intel's Prescott CPU
Intel released a new Pentium 4 today. I don't know when they'll be available, or how good they are. Judging by the inital benchmarks this CPU is nothing ground breaking. If you're looking for more information, why not consult your local library? Or just go here.

Dan

Patriots Take It
My team takes it 32-29, earning me a cool $20.
Go Patriots!

A toast to the host who can boast the most roast!
I just got back from Pete's....what can I say? The food just kept on coming, and coming and coming!
There was:
Nachos and Dip (and it was darn good dip)
Chili
Shrimp
Pita Bread and Feta dip
Roast Beef
Ceasar Salad
Chicken Quesadia (you know what I'm talking about...mexican pizza)
- and desset -
Apple Crisp
Giant Brownie

I can't wait for the next super bowl!

Dan

Oh yeah, and the game wasn't bad either.

Potluck
Dan-o-myte- bring a food dish valued at approxiamately $10 and eat all you want all night. We have lots of food being brought so anything you can rummage up should be great. See you soon, Pete

ps-byob

Links and Such
Dave,

I added those links you were asking for. The next thing on my 'todo' list is to build the news archives (so that we can view previous posts). I will add a way to edit the links from the admin section in the future. My school work needs my attention for the next little while.

Dan

P.S. See you around 5 Pete!

Links
Maybe we could have some more links, like to hotmail, and to our respective schools too.

Dave.

Pete - good to see you around! Hwo did you embed an image in your text?

Logo?
I've Made a Possible New Logo. For the top? Above the random quote?

PS- Dan, could you hook up a link to traffic info in the admin section?

SuperBowl Wagering
In December, I bet Ryan K $20 straight up. I took the New England Patriots to win the Superbowl. He took any other team in the NFL to win (I was bombed at the time of the bet). The Superbowl is now tomorrow, and the Patriots are favoured by 7. GO Patriots

Cheers - Pete
